The festive season is upon us, and although it is a time to relax and unwind, most of us hardly ever do! Before you know it, the holiday is over, and you feel even more exhausted than before your time off. 1. Practice being present:
Sometimes our thoughts are miles away from the present moment and unfortunately, this steals precious time. Every time your mind wanders, actively bring your focus back to the present moment. Take a deep breath and practice gratefulness and appreciation. This small act will help you to make the most of your time off and fully enjoy the memories with family and friends.
2. Limit your activities:
Overcommitting to too many activities over the holidays will leave you feeling tired and worn out. Having plans and commitments is exciting because it is something to look forward to, but only if it is within limits. Ensure the activities planned are balanced with exploring, adventure, and active resting.
3. Limit screen time:
More free time can easily lead to meaningless scrolling on social media platforms or binge-watching your favourite shows. There are so many studies that confirm excessive screen time is not good for one’s mental, emotional and physical health. Try to limit the usage of screen time and ensure that you keep record of the time spent on technological devices.
4. Avoid counting the days:
No one wants their holiday to end! Spending time at the beach, enjoying the warm sun, relaxing and spending time with family and friends can feel short-lived. We all know good things must come to an end and because of this, we can make the mistake of counting the days when on holiday because we want this time to last as long as possible. Rather than wishing this time would never end, be present and live in the moment. Avoid counting the days and rather enjoy the moment for what it is.
5. Do not sweat the small stuff:
Taking time off is all about doing as little as possible. When we have this off time, we tend to do things we never get time for throughout the year, like rearranging our cupboards and doing work in and around the house. Family may also visit over the festive season, and we end up being busy most of the time trying to be the best host, and as the host you want everything to be perfect. Avoid overexerting yourself, you deserve time off so ensure you do not waste it on things that do not matter in the long run. Don’t sweat the small stuff!
